This past weekend I celebrated my 36th birthday and it was a jam packed weekend of super fun! I needed a day of rest to start to feel like I was back to normal, nothing like a baby to zap the energy out of you.
If you weren’t aware, I LOVE birthdays! It’s the one time you get to do what you want to do and I believe everyone should feel special for it. Normally, I plan a snowboarding trip for an extended weekend and have a wonderfully white birthday weekend of fun in the snow. Being pregnant that wasn’t the smartest idea, since I was at 29 weeks, so I stayed home and still make a weekend of it. (of course!)
We started off the weekend with a group of about 17 doin’ it up at The Melting Pot. If you’ve never experienced the chocolate fondue there, you have to try it out. It’s divine! I had a wonderful time drinking my sage tea and overdoing it on melted chocolate glory! Not to mention all the wonderful friends that helped me celebrate. I adore them all and loved that they made time in their busy schedules to trudge all the way downtown for some sugary dunking fun.
On Saturday, I had lunch with my neighbor at Tiger! Tiger! – it was also a great treat! No cooking for me this weekend.
Next, I went to see Michael Jackson’s Immortal by Cirque du Soliel. It was SO much fun to enjoy a girls night. Normally, I would never fork over that much money, but since it was a special weekend I went for it and was so glad that I did. The show was incredibly fun and it made me realize how much of MJ’s music I forgot about. I was dancing in my seat the whole time!
Sunday, was my actual birthday and I had a full day ahead of me. To start off, I attended a baby shower, for a friend, who is due two weeks before me. It was lovely and she had a great time. It was so nice to see her enjoy herself and have a successful baby shower. Not to mention I am in the middle of working out our registry, which I find to be very frustrating. (and will probably write a blog post about, very soon)
Next, was my extra special activity to see a band I have always wanted to see — Wilco! It was the icing on a very yummy cake. We started off by having some dinner at home with a friend, who brought the most beautiful flowers and a onesie of perfection (Ray LaMontagne) as a surprise gift.
Then we headed downtown to Copley Symphony Hall to witness over two hours of the most amazing music I could have imagined. I knew that Wilco was a good live band, but had no idea just how good they were until then. Even being 29 weeks pregnant and incredibly tired I didn’t notice that two hours had gone by. We were all shocked when we looked at the time, as we were walking out. Of course, I should have probably known the second I realized I needed to hit the ladies room on the way out.
As you can see, it was an amazing weekend! I still LOVE birthdays, even at 36. Which goes to show you that this is the way I think everyone should do it for their birthday. Do whatever it is that you love with those that you love. Happy Birthday to me!
