I am, officially, 39 – thirty-nine! Feels really strange to say it. Then I think, I am almost middle age — what!?Almost over the hill. Almost in my 40’s! It makes me feel like I should be older or think older or act older or dress older, but I don’t. Honestly, I don’t even feel close to 40. Which is a something that I will go into another time. Of course, I have a lot to say about that, but right now I just want to talk about the wonderful week I had celebrating.
Normally, we go to the mountains for a snow weekend, but we weren’t able to do that this year, and it really bummed me out, but we did have guests in town. My in-laws were here for a visit! They are always a good time. While they are here we go out all the time; basically it feels like we are, also, on vacation. Plus, their birthday’s are the week before mine, so we are celebrating the whole time, it’s great!
However…I swear, I put on 5 pounds during this visit. It’s a good thing we don’t have a scale at home!
This year the extra fun part about my birthday was that a friend offered to put together a dinner. I didn’t have to do anything but choose the night, it was the best. No worrying about anything, I just had to show up! To my delight, an old friend came down for the night – all the way from LA! She made the rest of the evening just as easy. I didn’t have to decide on drinks or food…yummy things just appeared out of nowhere. I was in heaven. After dinner, we went to a newish bar that I had wanted to try out and we continued the fun.
It really was just what I needed and wanted to do. The one downer was that the baby woke up early, so I was exhausted the next day. Even though that’s not new, it meant that when Gil and I tried to go out for our first real date night since becoming parents we were extra tired and almost called it off. Of course, we couldn’t do that, so we rallied and went out for two beers. It was very nice to go out, just the two of us. And the grandparents got to babysit, for the first time. I would say it was a win-win!
I don’t get to see these lovely folks enough. Thanks so much for making my birthday special. Between family and friends I was on a glorious high for days! xo
